The Uselessness of Christian Pastors’ Activities in Ghana

Written by Mensah Adinkrah, Ph.D.

Ɔkrɔnkrɔnyi Nyame Somafo Yawoh has drawn attention to what He describes as the uselessness of the spiritual works carried out by Christian pastors in Ghana. According to Him, the activities of these pastors have contributed nothing towards making Ghana a greater or better nation.

Under the guidance of Christian pastors, Ghanaians have frequently been called to observe national days of prayer. Yet these exercises have never produced any tangible results. For instance, special prayer days that were set aside to stabilize the Ghanaian cedi yielded no success.

Similarly, during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, Christian pastors organized periods of intense prayer to “arrest” or stop the spread of the virus. These efforts were fruitless, as the situation worsened, more people contracted the disease, and many lives were lost.

More recently, pastors again mobilized prayers against illegal mining activities (galamsey), yet this practice continues unabated.

These repeated failures, Ɔkrɔnkrɔnyi Nyame Somafo Yawoh argues, expose the uselessness of Christian pastors and their activities. Persistently repeating the same actions while expecting different outcomes is, in His words, tantamount to insanity. Despite countless prayers over national problems, no meaningful change has been achieved. Continuing this cycle, therefore, is of no benefit to the nation.
